Namely Hillary (oh joy she's being smooootth again) and a Mr Nicholas Clegg, the as yet unwritten about leader of the Lib Dems. That's right, I'm so cool I'm gonna right about both sides of the pond.....apu.
First off we have the yellow party of the UK, the Liberal Democrats (an Amalgamation of the Social Democrats and Liberals.....as you probably know). Anywhichway they're celebrating their 21st year!! We all know that the basis of UK politics is "civil" debate, i.e. attacking every other party. However, the Liberal Democrats have chosen their victim namely Gordy and crew, a move that surprises.....no one. Considering the Conservatives have pulled 20% over them makes that particular beast rather hard to attack. The party in power though, that's struggling with one of the worst recessions of the last century, makes a rather suitable applicant for target practice. The Presidentialised nature of the last two Prime Ministers has ensured that their heads are well and truly above the parapet. Unlucky.
Next up we have Hillary of the Clinton persuasion, who spent the week being friieeenndsss with Lavrov of Russia, who was, coincidentally, not a Condoleezza fan. In fact I think my new favourite 'special relationship' has just been formed. Check the quote from the Russian: "I venture to say we have a wonderful personal relationship." Lols much?! Hillary toured a number of other countries but that just had to be the highlight!
It may be pretty evident that Northern Ireland is an issue that means a lot to me. The news that this weekend 3 people have died in a new influx of troubles (the Real IRA are claiming at least two of them as their responsibility) is saddening and almost overwhelmighly disheartening. But personally the issue is that the Northern Ireland Minister, Shaun Woodward, does not believe increased security on the barracks gates would not have made a difference to the outcome of the events because of the "ruthless" attackers. Although it's true that the members of the real IRA responsible were probably very determined to cause both death and destruction. However, the fact that the Barrack guard could not conceivably respond to the attack in defense, due to the fact that he was only equipped with a pistol, does throw up some very real questions. In the next few days the political longevity of the effect of these deaths should come into the light and I for one would like to see it prioritised and addressed fully.
In a final night hearted note i think 'MCCAIN: "I DON'T WANT HIM TO FAIL"' is possibly one of the most amusing sights I have ever freaking seen. It's also kinda irrelevant considering we haven't heard from McCain pretty much since the election process ended. I didn't really think McC wanted anything never mind Obama's failure. He's too like the forgetful great uncle whose lip kisses you have to strategically dodge for that. Also, props to the Huffington Post for subtlety and the picture that accompanied the piece:
If ever there was a definitive reason to elect Obama over McCain I would say the fact that McC looks roughly 5.3 seconds away from death would pretty much be it. The reason he looks so terrified? His almost-ghost status has enabled to see the future if under Sarah Palin. Rather him tbh.
